草決明和決明子是同一種東西，是豆科植物決明或小決明的乾燥成熟種子，以其有明目之功而名之。秋季採收成熟果實，曬乾，打下種子，除去雜質。決明子味苦、甘、咸，性微寒，入肝、腎、大腸經;潤腸通便，降脂明目，治療便秘及高血脂，高血壓。清肝明目，利水通便，有緩瀉作用，降血壓降血脂。
